The book was originally published in Maltese in 2003 under the title “Meta Karbet is-Sirena”. It was translated into English by Alfred Palma in 2012. The present book is an updated third edition and it presents a colourful picture of twenty people from every village in Gozo during World War II.
The book can be divided into two parts. The first part, entitled ‘A look at Gozo during the war’, is a collection of writings focused on different aspects of the war experience in Gozo. The second part, entitled ‘Reminiscences’, is a collection of writings with autobiographical aspects.
With this publication, Bezzina has confirmed himself as the most authoritative researcher on World War II in Gozo.
