The Partnership Agreements between the Ministry for Gozo and Planning and Wirt Għawdex have been renewed. These agreements will enable the Voluntary Organization to look after and protect five important historical sites in Gozo for the enjoyment of future generations and will provide physical and intellectual access to them.

These Partnership Agreements, which will cover a period of ten years, will contribute to the improvement, rehabilitation and restoration of the tangible cultural heritage, will improve the management of the same sites and will increase the appreciation and understanding of our architectural heritage.

This signing today clearly shows the commitment of the Ministry for Gozo and Planning towards the protection of our cultural heritage and at the same time is an example of the support that the same Ministry gives to the Voluntary Associations in their work for the benefit of our island’s heritage. Through these Partnership Agreements more people, including Gozitan residents, will get to know more about these historical sites and the history associated with them.

The sites are the Second World War Shelters at Citadella, the Battery, the Porvlista and other Shelters, also at Cittadella, Dar il Gevernatur in Triq l-Imġarr, Victoria, which is serving as Headquarters of the same NGO, the Tower of Mġarr ix-Xini, and the Chapel of Santa Cecilia, in Għajnsielem, the only medieval chapel that still exists in Gozo, and the site where the Partnership Agreements were signed.
